Imagine an airbag for your head. This is pretty much the concept behind the Hövding Invisible Bicycle Helmet. This Swedish company has decided to take a different approach to prevent head injuries while riding bicycles. The helmet is not actually invisible, let’s just say that it’s not where you are expecting it to be and does not look like what you are expecting it to look. The Hövding Helmet is designed to look good, to blend-in with your outfit and not mess-up your hair. Here is a crash-test video using the Hövding helmet.
Wrapped around your neck like a scarf, the Hövding includes a folded up airbag that deploys if you happen to have an accident. The airbag literally surrounds and protects your head when you need it most. On top of keeping your head safe, the airbag also protects your neck, therefore reducing the risk of severe injuries. The trigger mechanism is controlled by sensors which pick up the abnormal movements of a bicyclist in an accident. The Hövding helmet includes a "black-box" that works just like an airplace's black box and records data on potential accidents.
